Titanium was discovered in England in 1791 by a geologist and pastor William Gregor. He discovered the new element by founding black sand by a stream in the nearby of a parish, he noticed the sand was attracted by a magnet, so he analyzed it. He found that the black sand was made of two metal oxides: iron oxide in large amounts and a 45% was made of a white metallic oxide that he couldn't identify. Thats when he got to the conclusion that the white metallic oxide was a new element that was undiscoverd until then; Titanium!
